The Nebraska Department of Economic Development is working with the City of Milford to become a Leadership Certified Community.

The program opens doors for growth, sustainability and vitality with a road map to allow the community to become better organized for future growth and development.

The designation as a Leadership Certified Community lasts for five years, and Milford is re-certifying for another term. Certified communities display a high level of economic readiness, signify a strong infrastructure and are positioned to have success in grant-funded competitive projects.

In order to become certified, Milford must do the following:

- Demonstrate collaboration between community leaders and organizations;

- Have a strategic plan that is supported by a community needs assessment;

- Demonstrate use of community planning and zoning;

- A business expansion and retention strategy;

- Utilization of technology with web presence; and

- An implementation plan with a strong understanding of state and local resources.

Milford is currently in the process of gathering public input regarding the community’s satisfaction of various services and amenities.

The recently completed community assessment survey results will be shared at two upcoming community meetings. The Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership and City of Milford urge participation in helping to shape the future of Milford through strategic planning efforts.

Meetings will be Monday, Aug. 26, at Pizza Kitchen from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
