Mitzi Jean Myers-Nannen, passed from our midst on Thursday morning, Aug. 23, 2024, in Lincoln, surrounded by her loving family. She was 56 years young, having fought a courageous battle with cancer, determined to return this year to her beloved students and fellow educators at Milford High School.

Mitzi was born June 30, 1968, in Defiance, Ohio, to Lewis Myers and Nancy (Hees) Lenhart. She graduated from Ayersville High School in Defiance, Ohio, in 1986. Mitzi attended the University of Nebraska and graduated becoming a Spanish teacher. She enjoyed saying she was a “Huskeye” fan, Nebraska Huskers and Ohio Buckeyes.

Mitzi was a great conversationalist and never knew a stranger. She was especially thrilled upon meeting someone with whom she could practice her Spanish skills. Mitzi was politically astute, never hesitating to engage in an exchange of beliefs and views. She was an inclusive educator who saw the best in her students. Mitzi loved to travel abroad and enjoyed interacting with people from other cultures.

Mitzi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Annabelle (NaVeau) Myers of Defiance, Ohio, Homer and Vera Jean (Moore) Hees of York; and niece, Michaela Myers. Those remaining to cherish her memories are her daughters, Jessica (Marterius Gray) Nannen, Mesa, Arizona, and Emily (Spencer Ledyard) Nannen Bohnart, Unadilla; parents, Lewis Myers of Defiance, and Nancy Jean Lenhart, Bowling Green, Ohio; brother, Matthew Myers, Austin, Texas; Aunt Peggy and Uncle Jim Brumbaugh, Hamburg, Iowa; grandchildren, Zaydrian, Mason, Brayden, and Starlit; cousins, Nathan (Joseph Arneson) Brumbaugh of Omaha, Nicholas (Vanessa) Brumbaugh, Rockport, Missouri, Wade (Erin) Brumbaugh, Sidney, Iowa, and Elizabeth (Steve) Stenzel, Hamburg; a multitude of friends, colleagues and students.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Milford on a date yet to be decided. Mitzi will be laid to rest in the Myers’ Family cemetery, Defiance, at a later date.
