The Malcolm juniors, top seeded in their area, won their first two games in the Class C Area 4 tournament. Malcolm opened with a 14-3 win over Wilber July 13 and then beat the team from Chick-Fil-A 8-0 July 14. That puts Malcolm in the driver's seat in its district. It needs just one win to advance to the state tournament. The first game of the championship is July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Malcolm.
The Milford Legion Post 171 juniors fell short in their two games in the Class B Area 5 tournament. Milford lost to Lakeview 19-0 and to Pierce 8-0 July 12 and 13, respectively.
The Seward Legion Post 33 ZKE Storage juniors went 2-1 in their first games of the Class B Area 4 tournament in Elkhorn. Seward opened with a 10-0 win over Waterloo-Valley, then lost to ETC 11-0 before beating Arlington 12-4 in an elimination game. Seward plays Wahoo tonight at 8 p.m.
The Malcolm Post 354 seniors picked up a 4-2 win at Wahoo July 13. A three-run first inning got things started right for Malcolm, which improved to 16-5 on the season.
