A Seward County Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a 2022 Toyota Corolla for a traffic violation near mile marker 388 on east-bound I-80 at about 1 p.m. June 19.

During the traffic stop, the deputy became increasingly suspicious of criminal activity and asked for consent to search the vehicle. The driver, the sole occupant, denied consent to search the vehicle and a certified K-9 was deployed.

A positive alert was given, and a search of the vehicle revealed about nine pounds of “White China” heroin located within the vehicle. The approximate street value is $515,000.

The driver, Fernando Isai Puerta Perez, 33, of Nogales, Arizona, was taken into custody without incident as a result of this traffic stop. Puerta Perez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.

Peurta Perez was remanded to the Seward County Detention Center pending further court action.
