Adventures in construction

On Tuesday, July 3, area children are invited to Seward Memorial Library from 9 a.m. to noon to learn about construction in the community and meet some of the workers from Constructors and the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Activities include exploring construction equipment, making handprints and writing in concrete and free snow cones.

TOMORROW - Holiday story at SML

Preschoolers are invited to visit the Seward Memorial Library on Tuesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. for a holiday-themed story leading up to our nation’s birthday.

TOMORROW - Nature adventure week - trees

Justin Evertson will present a program Superhero Trees on Tuesday, July 2, at 1 p.m. at the Seward Memorial Library for grades K-5, no registration or limit. Join us to discover the ways trees and their leaves help us every day. After learning about their amazing abilities, we will get creative with a leaf-themed craft activity.

UBC splits doubleheader

Utica-Beaver Crossing split a pair of games against Tri County June 30, winning game one 9-4 before dropping game two 14-4. In the win, Devin Slawnyk went 2-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Seward seniors 3-1 at Silver Creek

The Seward Post 33 ZKE Storage seniors went 3-1 at the Ralph Jilg Tournament at Silver Creek over the weekend. Seward beat WV Post 58 3-0 and DC Post 125 11-2 June 29, then beat DCB 10-0 before falling to Post 58 4-3 June 30. In the win over DCB, Kolton Loos went 3-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Seward juniors 3-1 in tournament

The Seward Post 33 ZKE Storage juniors went 3-1 in games over the weekend in Grand Island. Seward defeated Omaha Electric 3-1 June 28, topped BB Roofing 19-15 and lost to Hastings Imperial 6-0 June 29 and beat Kearney Pinnacle Bank 4-3 June 30. In the win over Kearney, Kyle Riley went 3-4 with a double and drove in two. Bostyn Happ was 2-4, as was Deklan Lindau.

Milford juniors battle in losses

The Milford Post 171 juniors went 0-3 over the weekend, falling to the HM Owls 14-0 June 28, to Pius X Reserves 16-3 June 29 and to Malcolm Reserves 11-7 June 29. Justin Dixon, Gabe Mach and Quinn Zegers had two hits each in the loss to Malcolm.

Malcolm seniors drop two

After going 2-0 in June 28's games, the Malcolm Legion seniors lost both games June 29 in the Coach K tournament in Lincoln. Malcolm lost to CarpetLand 5-1 and Anderson Ford 3-2. Carson Frank went 2-3 against Anderson Ford.

LUETHKE, Jonathan

Visitation for Jonathan Luethke will be Monday, July 1, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Staplehurst.
